For cinema fans, it’s a big weekend release as Tom Cruise rails his last mission as Ethan Hunt on Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning – releasing 23 May. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the high-stakes eighth installment premiered at Cannes 2025 and continues the storyline from Dead Reckoning Part One.

This time, Ethan is ganged up with Benji (Simon Pegg), Luther (Ving Rhames), Grace (Hayley Atwell), and new IMF recruits Paris (Pom Klementieff) and Theo Degas (Greg Tarzan Davis).
Things take a turn when Gabriel forces Ethan to recover the core module – the infamous “Rabbit’s Foot” from a sunken Russian submarine. That piece of tech could unlock the Entity’s source code, giving Gabriel the upper hand.
With help from Benji, Paris and Theo, the crew digs deeper and uncovers Gabriel’s device used to talk to the Entity.
Ethan soon realizes that the Entity’s survival depends on reaching a top-secret digital bunker. With this mission, Ethan’s search will land him in South Africa to finish what he has started.
Part of the movie was filmed at the Blyde River Canyon in South Africa, where Cruise performed the stunt hanging from the wing of a biplane.
Expect full-throttle action, emotional stakes, and a legacy-worthy send-off for one of cinema’s greatest spies.
